I was born in Washington DC too many years ago, the product of an Iowa farm boy father (who left and got a PhD in Economics) and French mother from an Academic family in Montpellier France. Public school educated, including Lycee in France, University of Maryland undergraduate and Medical School, internship and residency in San Francisco (a great place to be in the 1960s), Navy Medical service in San Diego (great!), Viet Nam, and New York City (also terrific): unlike what is said, I volunteered for any and everything, doing my medical thing, and benefited and enjoyed it all. Ultimately landing in Santa Monica working with a Navy doctor friend for many years, teaching UCLA Medical Students and Orthopedic Residents at the West Los Angeles VA for 40 years while having a private Orthopedic Practice in Santa Monica: All very worthwhile and fun.

I’ve traveled extensively in Europe, spending every July mostly in my French home in Montpellier for 30 + years. I Joined Rotary to meet people outside of medicine and participate in community affairs.

I have three sons, now grown, independent, successful, all great fathers, workers, etc. and now my best friends. Same wife (Marilyn) for over 50 years, who has tolerated me and shared many adventures, with the boys and now with 10  grandchildren.
