ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK  – Joe Metoyer, Club Member since 1995

The Rev. Dr. Joseph P. Metoyer, Jr. is our President-Elect.  He established an American Baptist Church – now affiliated with Transformation Ministries with a mission to provide a new and friendly worship experience with the intention of reaching out to a multi-cultural community.  Dr. Metoyer is the founder of ACTS “A Community That Shares”, a faith based non-profit 501c3 organization with a mission to develop collaborations for building capacity to effectively mentor children of offenders and restore the family and provide mental health care to families.  He was previously Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Santa Monica and served as President of the Virgin Islands Bible Institute, training pastors for the Virgin Islands Baptist Mission which plants churches throughout the Eastern Caribbean Nations and St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

Joe is also Chairman of the Church Plant Development Committee for American Baptist Churches of the Pacific South West Area IIII. 

Joe received a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Biola University, took courses at the Talbot School of Theology, obtained his Master and Doctor of Theology at the Philadelphia Bible College and Seminary in Baltimore, and an M.S. in Marital and Family Therapy from CSU Dominguez Hills.

Joe has had advisory board or chaplain positions at Santa Monica College, the YMCA, Center for Healthy Aging, and Santa Monica Police Department.     

Prior to Pastoring, Joe had a successful 25-year career in Sports Marketing and represented the following Los Angeles Sports Teams: LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, LA Rams, California Angels, the Los Angeles Raiders and UCLA Sports. He also owned the Broadcast rights to USC Sports.
