This week our meeting was on Zoom, and it was  nostalgic as our speaker, Judi Barker, shared so many stories about the history of The Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport.
Judi Barker is a native of Southern California. She owns and operates the Historic Santa Monica Air Center/ Barker Hangar, which remains family owned and operated since 1969. After her father’s passing her passion for music and community brought a new kind of business to Santa Monica. Since 1986, she has hosted and produced hundreds of events which have received international TV exposure, a few of which include the Critics’ Choice Awards, Kids Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards, King’s Sports Boxing at Barker, the MTV Awards, and a number of rehearsals for Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, U2, Styx and Duran Duran to name a few.
But most dear to her heart are the countless fundraisers which have raised awareness and financial support for Autism Speaks, P.S. Arts, One Voice Holiday Food Drive, Planned Parenthood, City of Hope, The USC Center for Applied Molecular Medicine, The Clara Lionel Foundation, Macy’s Passport, TJ Martell Foundation, Keep-a-Child Alive, Children Affected By Aids Foundation, Palloween, Cause for Paws, Best in Rescue and many, many more. Most of the events have a relationship with the Hangar and the Crew for many years and continue to support the business and the City of Santa Monica.
Besides the celebrated events at the Hangar, Judi has passionately involved herself in several Santa Monica Based charities and activities, including the Santa Monica Police Activities League, The Santa Monica History Museum, Kiwanis, Santa Monica YMCA, and the Santa Monica Museum of Flying. Judi is devoted to the community and maintains the Hangar as a tribute and a cultural representation of this beautiful city we call home.

There are few things Judi loves more than her work. Beginning and ending with her love of the Beatles (particularly Paul McCartney). A well-known LA sports enthusiast, she has been an avid supporter and ticket holder of the Lakers and the Dodgers for over 30 years. When she catches a moment, she also loves to water-ski, travel with family and friends and attend concerts. We are thankful for Judi sharing her important journey with us and especially grateful for Diane Margolin interviewing Judi as our program of the day.
