District Governor, Olivia Patterson Ryans made her official visit to our club last Friday.  Other dignitaries joined her including the First Gentleman, Robert Ryans, her Chief of Staff, Alex Parajon, Senior Assistant Governor, Glenn Gomez and our Assistant Governor, Tom Johnstone.

I would like to thank all who helped make our meeting a success last week:  Gary Ogden for greeting at the door, Carole Powell, Stan Fox, and Rose Mary Regalbuto for their leadership service at the back table.  Stan stepped in with Rose Mary to help the David Rosenfeld Cheer Squad this week.

Karen Wallerstein provided a timely invocation.  Carole Stein was the President’s pick and Ann Greenspun welcomed visiting Rotarians and Guest.  Ken Waltzer had all of us singing to the U.S. Navy Band playing our patriotic song followed by the pledge to our Nation’s flag.  The special song of the day was “Wade in the Water”.

Bret Carter acknowledged Foundation Contributors while District Governor Olivia pinned the Paul Harris Fellows.  This was an impressive list of members.

I simply must give a shout out to Len Lanzi, he teamed up with Ken Waltzer this week to manage our Zoom with a special announcement from Kera Blades Snell, live, all the way from her hometown in Belize, Central America.  Kera is setting up a Day of Service for our Club the day following The District Humanitarian Trip to Belize March 23-31st, 2023.  Details will follow please plan to join us.

Vicky Curtis, Co-Chair of our Wine Festival presented Andrea Murray of “Safe Place For Youth” a check for $14,350.00 which were the proceeds from our “Fund A Need” portion of the Wine Festival. The Wine Festival raised over $91,000.00 for our club’s budget for this year.  Our Wine Festival this Rotary year is scheduled for Saturday, March 4th, 2023 at the Santa Monica Bay Women’s Club.

District Governor Olivia Patterson Ryans presented awards to the following members of our club.  The Rotary Club of Santa Monica’s McGyver – J.B. Bartlett; Our most involved Rookie – Karin Wallerstein; Our Most Inspirational Member – Pam Brady; and Our Most Imaginative Member – Vicky Curtis.  Each is a deserving member who is an example of Service Above Self.
