Rotaract Club of Santa Monica College
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18
to 30. The Rotaract Club of Santa Monica College is sponsored by the Rotary Club
of Santa Monica. Currently, the Rotarian liaison is Todd Lipka and
the SMC Faculty Advisor is Honorary Rotarian Lynette Shishido.
The Rotaract Club of Santa Monica College is an active club, and they are
true "partners in service" and a key member of the Rotary family. The club
meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month on the college campus.
As the pictures show: while they have pertinent meetings, they also have fun and
the club is committed to community service.

This is the picture taken right before the start of the AIDS Walk. The
walk began at 10am but we had members showing up as early as 7am at
school for carpooling. In total, we had 22 of our Rotaract members doing
the AIDS Walk and raising a total of $1499! 3 of our members: Lucetta
Pringle, Vice President Marie Camacho and Tanja Hrast raised a combined
total of nearly $800. Thats a little over 50% of the total donations.

Rotaract President Edgar Nunez holding our Rotaract sign walking with
other SMC students from various clubs. This was a great accomplishment
done because SMC has never had as much clubs involved in one charitable
event.
From left to right we have student from UNICEF, myself representing
Rotaract, student from Anthropology Club, and the last 2 on the right
are from the "Gender & Sexuality Alliance" club. UNICEF is a club that
deals with children, Anthropology club is a club for Anthropology
majors, and GSA is a club that tries to unite students of all sexual
preferences. The reason I am the only one holding a sign was because our
club was able to sign up 20+ members by a certain due date on the AIDS
Walk site. They had a requirement for groups (which was to have 20 or
more sign up online) in order to give them their own meeting station.

|
This was during club row. We thought of a great marketing strategy to
promote our club, and that was to give away "free kisses." This caught
the attention of many students walking by because they were actually
given a free Hershey Kiss, not an actual kiss. But some of our members
had some sense of humor and gave some kisses to students cheek. In total
we signed up over 50 prospecive members.

Treasurer Randy Unger posing for the camera with our
other poster labeled "Thrive". We feel that after our hard work,
we Rotaract members thrive for rewards. In the poster, students
get to see the rewards we earn for all the work we put in.
This is all during the school's Club Row event. Club row is held
once per semester and clubs get the opportunity to recruit members and
promote themselves.

Newly elect VP Afram Chukro, from Sweden (Also taken
at the AIDS Walk). He has been involved with Rotaract for 4
semesters and has shown commitment for the club since the beginning.
His hard work paid off and will now work to make Rotaract a successful
club once again for the spring semester.
