December 26, 2003 - DARK Christmas Day Holiday

December 19, 2003 - Annual Club Christmas/Holiday Party -The Woodwind Quartet will be performing Holiday Music and the wonderful children from Carlthorp School will treat us to some old favorites. Our mystery Santa Claus will appear bearing gifts (not fines) for the deserving youngsters and maybe even a few good Rotarians. Good Cheer and Merriment will Abound.

Sharona Justman will be speaking on 12/12/03 on "Presidential Impact."

In addition to being the Managing Director of STEP Strategy Advisors, Sharona Justman is also the co-founder of Rubenstein/Justman Management Consultants, a leading operations management consulting firm focusing on information technology and operations improvement servicing Fortune 1000 clients over the past sixteen years. November 28, 2003 - DARK - Thanksgiving Day Holiday

Buzz McCoy will be speaking 11/21/03 on "Teaching Business Ethics."

Buzz Mc Coy was born in San Francisco and attended Stanford University, graduating with a degree in economics. He later went on to Harvard Business School, where he received his M.B.A.

Mr. Mc Coy served in Korea in the United States Army, Intelligence Branch, and received the Department of Army Commendation Medal. He began working for Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc. in 1962. He was an owner of the firm for twenty
years, and he directed Morgan Stanley's real estate finance activities for 13 years and its West activities for five years. In 1990 he retired, and he presently spends his time as a real estate and business counselor, an educator and a philanthropist.

Mr. Mc Coy has received writing awards from Harvard Business Review and Real Estate Counselor. He has also received professional awards in real estate from the Graduate School of Business, University of Southern California and
in business ethics from the Graduate School of Business, Arizona State University.

Mr. Mc Coy and his wife Barbara have six children and three grandchildren. They spend as much time as they can at their hiking ranch in Topanga, in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Paul Netzel will be speaking on 11/14/03 on "Rotary International Programs."

Paul Netzel is chairman/CEO of Netzel Associates, Inc., a leading management-consulting firm he founded in 1985 specializing in work with non-profit organizations and institutions throughout the Western U.S. Paul’s community service extends beyond Rotary having served as Mayor of Culver City, CA for two terms while a city council member (1980-88). Previously, he served as Culver City Board of Education president and, most recently, held leadership positions on the boards of the Boy Scouts Los Angeles Area Council, the Culver-Palms YMCA, Goodwill Industries of Southern California, United Way and the Advisory Board of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

November 7, 2003 - Veteran's Day Program featuring former POW Shoshana Johnson

This special Veterans Day Program will feature remarks by two Iraq war veterans, US Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson, a rescued Prisoner of War, and Marine Sgt. William Holodnak, a former - and returning - Clerk at Gelsons Market in Pacific Palisades. Also speaking will be Colonel Joseph N. Smith, USMC (Ret), Los Angeles County Director of Military & Veterans Affairs, and holder of the Silver Star Medal for heroic action in Vietnam.

All members who have served in the Armed Forces (whether U.S. or other countries), are encouraged to wear any of their uniform that they still have and can fit in to, and if they don't have anything else, get a cap to wear, showing which service they were in.

October 24, 2003 - Kathy Dodson - The Chamber's New Look

Our own Dr. Kathy Dodson will discuss, "The Chamber of Commerce's New Look". Kathy is CEO of the Chamber and joined our club in 2001. She and her husband Tom live in Redondo Beach and both are Thunderbird graduates. Kathy has also received a PhD from Clemson.

October 17, 2003: Dr. James Luck - President, CEO, and Medical Director of Orthopaedic Hospital

Orthopaedic Hospital is a recognized world leader in research, teaching and patient care in orthopaedic medicine, resulting in an improved quality of life for children and adults with crippling diseases for 88 years. Dr. Luck joined Orthopaedic Hospital as a volunteer in 1959, became a Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1968, and was promoted to Chief Resident in 1972. In 1989, he assumed the functions of President, CEO, and Medical Director.

October 10, 2003: Steve Cooley Los Angeles District Attorney - Crime and Prosecution in Los Angeles

Steve has taken the lead in demanding that the Federal government take steps to reverse Mexico’s refusal to extradite accused criminals who face life sentences in the United States. He has also been a leader in sponsoring anti-terrorist legislation in Sacramento. Cooley obtained the passage of three bills to protect against terrorist acts and weapons of mass destruction.
