GENERAL INFORMATION

The Rotary Club of Santa Monica, which was chartered in 1922, has about 170 members and is one of the largest Rotary Club in the Los Angeles region.

The service club draws its members from a wide range of occupations. It is part of Rotary International, which has about 1.22 million members in more than 31,000 clubs in 167 countries.

As part of Rotary’s ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life, the Santa Monica club has a variety of projects.

Some recent highlights include: helping to create a youth center at a local middle school for after school programs; purchasing more than 150 wheelchairs for disabled people worldwide; a resource guide on mental health, eldercare and healthy aging; immunization clinics; reading and literacy projects, including donating thousands of books to schools; a public service recognition day; high school and community college scholarships; contributions to a continuing effort to eradicate polio internationally; and participating in coastal cleanups.
