DAVID ORTH-MOORE is Catholic Relief Services’ Senior Advisor for Africa, based in Baltimore, Maryland, where he recently relocated after 25 years in Africa, most recently as CRS’ East Africa Regional Director from 2008—2017.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Juniata College in Huntington, Penn, David started his career in international development serving as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal from 1986 to 1989 helping rural communities to develop water and sanitation systems. After completing his Peace Corps service, David returned to the United States to continue his education. In 1991, he received a master’s degree in Development Management from the American University in Washington, D.C. He then joined Catholic Relief Services, being first assigned to conduct relief operations in Liberia during the civil war.

In August 2008, David became CRS’ Regional Director for East Africa responsible for regional oversight of CRS programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan Tanzania and Uganda, as well as for CRS support to partner agencies in Somalia.
