The new year is a perfect time to assess how much has been accomplished, and whether our personal and professional goals have been met. We at the Santa Monica Rotary Club are justifiably proud of our members.  Take a look at what we’ve done lately:

There will be a Santa Monica Rotary Boys & Girls Club Center at John Adams Middle School due to the philanthropy of the Rotary Foundation and Santa Monica Rotary Club. These two entities donated a total of $50,000 to build a recreation center to improve the lives of our young citizens. Bill Crookston, Allan Young, and John Deasy get a salute for their vision and perseverance.

Thanks to Marv Levin, $7,500 was raised for Paul Harris Fellowships, allowing deserving young people to partake of academic scholarships;

800 books were collected by Norma Barnes and Shirley Dowling to improve literacy and enhance the Read By Nine Program. An additional $2,000 went to the John Muir Elementary School’s reading program. And the impoverished citizens of Swaziland got $1,600 for its literacy crusade.

Three additional Immunization Clinics were organized by Jim Reidy, bringing to 6,500 the number of children Rotary has immunized since 1990;

bullet

Spyros Dellaportas made sure the Santa Monica Police Department personnel were treated to a gourmet Thanksgiving meal, compliments of Klaus Mennekes. And $1,290 went to Food on Foot for the homeless.

The Salvation Army was $4,758 better off due to the effective bell ringing of Rotarians. Credit Frank Lavac with keeping the energy high.

We in Rotary have amply maintained our tradition of Service Above Self, this holiday season and beyond.  Have a safe and healthy new year.
