WE CELEBRATED ITALIAN CHEF'S DAY

Buca di Beppo is tucked away on Second Street between Santa Monica Blvd. and Broadway in downtown Santa Monica, and dining there was somewhat like dining in the home of a gracious Italian family. Photos of presumed relatives and Italian celebrities such as Gina Lollabrigida, Sofia Loren,  Frank Sinatra and the Pope adorn the walls along with treasured knick-knacks.  (The former Pussy Cat Theater is decorated in a style that is worth a visit. Trust me...such class!)

Members of our Rotary Club decided to try out this fairly new restaurant in early June.  The generous portions were presented family style by outstanding servers.  We selected a menu which included garlic bread with mozzarella cheese,  crispy, thin-crust pizza, eggplant parmigiana, canelloni filled with a delicate meat sauce, perfectly cooked green beans and creamy tiramisu for dessert.

The reasonable price also included coffee, tea or soft drinks.  Alcoholic beverages were additional, but it seems to me that President Hal wanted everyone to be in an extra good mood, so he ordered wine for all.

In attendance were our members--gregarious yet  tame for Rotarians--Hal and Kai-Li Quigley, Sara Frank, Pat and George Collins, Dee, Jim and Jamie Menzies, Bill Randall, Dave and Ann Rimer, Paul and Jennifer Gaulke, Steve Eorio, Bill and Dolores Fritzche, Diane Margolin (Chair),  J.R. and Grace Dzubak (President of the Venice-Marina Rotary Club) plus two other friends. Karim Jaude came by for dessert.

If you missed our dinner and would like to experience a culinary experience like no other, call 58-PASTA for reservations.
