Our District Conference was held April 28-May 1, 2005, at the beautiful Doral Desert Princess Resort in Palm Springs. The theme for the District Conference was “Celebrate Rotary and Have Fun”, and that is exactly what we did.
We began the Conference on Thursday with a visit to Mt. San Jacinto on the aerial tramway and some light shopping at the Cabazon Outlet Mall (I'm glad my wife missed this portion of the conference). Thursday evening we boarded busses to attend the Palm Spring Follies which was chaired by our own PP Dee Menzies!
Friday and Saturday were filled with Plenary Sessions that kept us all very busy. We won the following awards during those Sessions:
Overall Club Service – Merit Award
Club Programs – Merit Award
Family of Rotary/Fellowship – Merit Award
Internet Communication (RotaryClubofSantaMonica.org Committee) – Distinction Award
Membership Attendance (House Attendance Committee)– Merit Award
Friendship Exchange Programs (Group Study Exchange Committee)– Merit Award
Literacy Programs (Literacy Committee) – Merit Award
International Youth Projects (World Community Service Committee) - Merit Award
Saturday night we attended the Governor’s Ball, where President Lionel Ruhman was given the Governor’s Award of Excellence. (Way to go Lionel!)
Sunday we enjoyed a breakfast and memorial service to remember our District’s Rotarians who have passed away during the year.
We had a dozen or more Rotarians who attended the conference. Those Rotarians who attended and who are not shown: Spyros Dellaportas, Marv Levin, Monte McCormick, John McIntire, Dee Menzies, and Clyde Smith.
Thank you to all the Rotarians who enjoyed this wonderful weekend with us, and thank you Jon Kemp and June Doy for pictures and editorial!
