HEADS UP!!
While President Bill was away, the mice were playing!!
Yukking it up at last weeks head table were SPYROS DELLAPORTAS, ALAN GLICK, HANK WALTER, VP TOM LOO (endowed with all the power to "Fine" by the missing Pres.!) and ODED WOLF.
Some wiseguys started singing, and thanks to their vocal abilities, EVERYONE was fined a cool $100.
It was Birthday day and our Archon of Natal Festivities, ROSEMARY REGALBUTTO helped the following b-days to be celebrated: BILL SOMEBODY, (I missed his last name!), FRANK BLANKHORN, JACK GREGORY, BILL RANDLE, DICK LAWRENCE, JIM MENZIES, DON DICKERSON, BILL FRITSCHE, STEVE ALEXIS, PHIL TIRONE, STEVE LITVACK, STAN JOHNSON, GENE SHANK BRENDA KATZ, SHIRLEY DOWLING, BURTON MARCUS AND NANCY FREEDMAN.
Visiting us this week were FRANCEY BURKE from New Jersey. Our guests included a member of the Clergy SISTER ADA GERAGHTY, Dr. YURIKO SUZUKI, Rev. E. KEITH RICHARDSON, and CHERYL BRIGHTER.
GOOD DEEDS DONE
The CENTER FOR HEALTHY AGING by way of its Pres and CEO, DR. MONIKA WHITE received a grant from Rotary to update 10,000 brochures to raise awareness of the good work they do.
CRAFT TALKS
ALAN GLICK
As Alan so eloquently put it, he has worked for SalomonSmithBarneyHuttonShearsonLehmanCitigroup, all without changing jobs or offices!
Coming from Northeastern with a major in P.E. and Biology, Alan's history of service to the community is far ranging and has clearly made use of his financial knowledge, since he was Treasurer, Vice President and President of the JayCees, Chaired the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation, Treasurer of the Red Cross and the Santa Monica Associates and is now completing his last year with the Little League.
He is clearly addicted to volunteerism, and is a welcome addition, via LARRY MAHER'S invitation to the Santa Monica Rotary.
ODED WOLF
This doyen of a diamond dynasty demonstrated a desire to drive us to live our "dash" dynamically to the denoument. The "dash" of course is the space on a tombstone between year of birth and year of death.
The soft lilt of his slight Israeli accent added to his life story. Born in Israel, raised in America, serving in the Israeli army for 3 1/2 years he comes to us a self made man. He worked his way through school, at days in the diamond biz, and studying at night.
Oded explained how a monopoly works. He covered the way in which De Beers controls the diamond world and how one becomes part of that mysterious, and exciting world of diamonds and dollars.
REMINDERS AND SUCH
NO MEETING ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY!!
IMMUNIZATION CLINIC - St. John's Hospital. Actual clinic is from 10:00 AM to Noon.
For Rotarians, the first shift starts at 9:00 AM as we have to do setup. Rotarians are not expected to spend three hours at St. John's. We try and arrange for one hour shifts if we have enough volunteers. Even if you can't be there for the whole clinic the hour between 9:00 and 10:00 is critical.
