HEADS UP!

This week we had the dulcet tones of JACK SIEGAL introducing our visiting Rotarians and Guests, while Dr. GERALD LEVEY was the Guest of Honor, introduced by DICK RICE, they were bringing style, intelligence and wit to the left wing, while on the right wing were seated our Invocoteur TOD LIPKA and our new member, BRENDA KATZ, and oh yeah, that lame duck President BILL CROOKSTON with only days to the end of his reign, was cracking wise about a certain physicians cold hands.

Dr LEVEY gave a scintillating overview of the current and future medical facilities of Santa Monica and UCLA. His brief description of how the current budget woes of our fair state are translating into scheduling delays and cost overruns for the soon to be opened latest state of the art medical facility was alarming.

This extremely accomplished doctor gave a peek at the inner workings of the behemoth known as UCLA MEDICAL SCHOOL.  From the 6500 doctors the school has produced to the mammoth budget that he is in charge of, this doctor keeps the system running. Whether he is leading the fundraising for the 1.5 billion dollar new hospital being built, or keeping UCLA in the top ten in NIH grants, he keeps in mind the three commitments of UCLA to serve the Students, the Community at large and to continue to foster growth in the facility.

Past Rotamonica Editor KEITH MONROE sends word from the great North, that he is settling in well.  He is keeping tabs on us via the perrenial birthday boy BILL HUNT and wishes all the best.  He feels well informed and up to date on our current accomplishments.

“YOU’RE SO FINE, MY 409”

This week the President must have been feeling a bit wonky, he chose to fine a Pope and a Pipe.  GRAHAM POPE was dinged for his special musical request, and TOM LOO was smoked out  for his firm’s big tobacco win.

He's opened for such diverse acts as Aretha Franklin, Loretta Lynn, Tom Jones, and Gladys Knight, and is equally at home - and equally funny - in small comedy clubs or on a big Las Vegas stage.
