Dr. Gary Small is on the
faculty at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he is the Parlow-Solomon
Professor on Aging, a Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, and
Director of the Center on Aging. He
received his medical degree from the University of Southern California, then
completed a general psychiatry residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in
Boston, MA, and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at UCLA.
His research focuses on early detection and prevention of age-related
memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease, and he led the research team that was the
first to report early brain function decline in people at genetic risk for the
disease.
Dr. Small serves on the editorial boards of numerous scholarly journals, and his accomplishments have been recognized by the International Psychogeriatric Association Research Award, the Senior Investigator Award from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and the American Psychiatric Association’s Jack Weinberg Award in Geriatric Psychiatry. He has authored over 400 scientific publications, and has been listed in Best Doctors in America since its inception. His latest book, The Memory Bible, introduces the latest research on preventing memory loss, improving memory performance, and maintaining brain health.
